Denver Police Searching For 'Chunky' Man Who Groped Young Girl

DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver have released images of a man suspected of groping a young girl on a trail. Neighbors who live in the area are concerned.

"This kind of crime is not a good thing and it makes our whole community and our whole world a bad place," said Jean Delacruz, who lives in the neighborhood.

According to police, about 2 p.m. on April 16, a juvenile female was walking home in the 1200 block of North Perry Street near the light rail station.

"We're concerned," said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

When she turned westbound onto the Lakewood Gulch Trail, she was attacked by the suspect and touched inappropriately.

"He came upon her and touched her in an inappropriate fashion. It could have gotten worse. Fortunately she got away from him and fled," said Jackson.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, about 5-foot-7 and "chunky." He's wanted for sexual assault on a child.

The attack has put the neighborhood on alert.

"He's probably planning on doing more so it's scary and I really hope they catch him," said neighbor Demika Duran.

Delacruz has a message for the attacker, "Shame on you. These things that are happening like this-- there are people who love these children and care for these children and it's not okay."
