'Race The MAC' Is New Mountain Bike Series Coming To Castle Rock

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4)- The Miller Activities Center, or MAC, is boasting a new mountain bike race series in Castle Rock.

"Race the MAC" is a new series that will take place on Wednesdays starting in July with a season championship to be named in August.

"This year, we'll hold five races, and hope to expand on that in upcoming seasons" said organizer Kyle Sipes. "The MAC facility trails offer a great opportunity for us to bring a race series to the area. It has everything you'd want in a short track mountain bike race."

The race series will have four different classes from juniors and beginners up to experienced and accomplished racers.

"The thought behind it is, bring mountain bike racers another avenue, mid-week, to get out there and increase their fitness. Also participants sometimes do not have the option to race on the weekends." Sipes said. "We at raceco.org are dedicated to creating fun, family friendly race series unlike anything else along the Front Range. The key point is this series is to involve everyone in your family, giving spectators something to do while you significant other is out competing."

Junior courses will be about six miles, while adults will race anywhere from 10 miles and up.

"The competitors can expect a challenging single track race courses built for competition. Each classification will have different lengths. The idea is to keep them racing for no more than an hour to an hour and a half," said Sipes "We also have on-site food vendors from local business and for all competing in the races. A beer garden will be available at no charge to participants. This will be sponsored by Grist Brewing Company In Highlands Ranch."

The first race is July 15.
