Shooting Witness: 'He Followed Him In There And Blew Him Away'

DENVER (CBS4) - A man was arrested on Sunday following a deadly shooting in Denver's Five Points neighborhood.

The shooting happened Saturday night at 26th Avenue and Welton Street. Police were able to track down the suspect, identified as Larry Roberts, 66, and make an arrest. Witnesses say the suspect and the victim were both visiting some tenants at an apartment building when an argument turned deadly.

"Larry went in there and just shot Willy and killed him, and Larry wasn't a violent guy," said Norman Harris, Jr., the apartment building owner.

Harris says the apartment building he owns is normally quiet.

"They were doing a little drinking and I guess they got into an argument and one guy tried to leave and go into another apartment and the guy followed him in there and blew him away," Harris said.

When police arrived the shooter had already left.

"I had gotten out here to the hallway and that's when Larry got in the car and he was gone," Harris said.

"He fled the scene. Through our investigation it led us to 26th and Race this morning where we arrested the suspect without incident," Sonny Jackson with Denver police said.

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital where he died a short time later from a gunshot wound to the chest.

"It's sad, especially on Easter, so we've got to pray for each other," Harris said.
