Man Suspected Of Sexually Assaulting CU Student On Campus
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A Good Samaritan interrupted a sex assault that was in progress on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder overnight.
Campus police say the suspect, who was identified as Andrew Bryant Souser, followed a female CU student from the University Hill neighborhood onto campus and then began assaulting her near the Engineering Center. The attack happened at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The woman screamed when police say the suspect told her he was going to rape her. Another man in the area heard the scream and stopped the assault and the suspect ran off.
Police say about an hour later they were searching for the suspect and were contacted on a different part of campus by a woman who said a man had tried to touch her. She said the man made sexually offensive comments and provided a description similar to the one the assault victim had given them. She said he was a man in his 20s who appeared to be a transient.
Officers arrested Souser shortly afterwards near the University Memorial Center and said he gave them a false name. Souser tentatively faces charges of sex assault and attempting to influence a public official.
Souser's mug shot is not being released as police continue their investigation.
