Driver In Road Rage Accident Arrested

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Lakewood have arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a what is believed to be a road rage incident that resulted in a traffic accident with serious injuries.

About 12:40 p.m. Sunday some type of confrontation happened between two vehicles traveling eastbound on 6th Avenue at highway speeds. Each vehicle had a driver and two passengers.

Police said the confrontation began when one of the vehicles attempted to merge into traffic from the on-ramp at Wadsworth Boulevard. Witnesses indicated that the merging vehicle may have honked its horn at the other, a Ford Explorer.

As they traveled eastbound the Explorer was in the middle lane on the left side of the second vehicle. Witnesses told police the driver of the Explorer, Carrie Tillane Marolf intentionally swerved to her right, up to three times, towards the second vehicle possibly in an attempt to force if off the road or to intimidate the second driver.

Marolf, 31, appeared to overcorrect, losing control of the Explorer and eventually collided with the center or median barrier, rolling her vehicle.

Marolf and her two passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries but one passenger had serious injuries.

Police interviewed the occupants of the second vehicle. That driver was not cited for any violations.

Police said as a result of the witnesses accounts and the injuries sustained by Marolf's passengers, Marolf was arrested after she was released from the hospital.

Marolf was booked at the Jefferson County Jail on charges of vehicular assault as well as reckless driving. Lakewood Police detectives do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
