Denver Studies Need For, Costs Of Public Toilets Downtown

DENVER (AP) - The Denver Post reports politicians are studying the need for and costs of putting public toilets downtown amid a debate about what to do about people urinating in the streets of the increasingly popular heart of the city.

The Post said Monday that a report from a consulting firm looking into the questions for the city could be ready before an April 11 community meeting city council members have called.

At-large Councilwoman Robin Kniech linked the problem to Denver's growth, saying downtown has become a destination for arts and sporting events. Dennis Ryerson, a leader on a downtown neighborhood association, said in a recent Post op-ed that it is a matter of public service and sanitation as well as of human dignity that other cities are addressing.
