9 Weekend Series At Coors Field To Look Forward To This Season

DENVER (CBS4) - Maybe the Rockies will surprise us and have a great 2015.

Maybe they will stay healthy, and get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

Maybe.

But even if it's another summer where the Rox are out of it by the All-Star break, there will be plenty of good teams coming to Coors Field this year.

Here are the Top 5 weekend series worth checking out this season.

1. Chicago Cubs (April 10-12)
It's hard to top opening weekend at Coors Field -- a fun weekend in itself -- and this year the opponent is the Chicago Cubs. (If you want to feel better about the Rockies lack of post-season success, just talk to a Cubs fan.) Recently acquired ace Jon Lester is slated to start opening day for the Cubs, but he could potentially pitch Sunday at Coors.

2. San Francisco Giants (May 22-24)
You have two other weekend options to see the World Series Champs in the Mile High City (April 24-26 and September 4-6), but it's hard to beat Memorial Day weekend. The Giants have won 3 of the past 5 World Series and have plenty of talent on their roster worth seeing in person. The weekend also includes a fireworks game on Friday.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers (May 8-10)
Want to see the best team money can buy? Come see the Dodgers. LA's payroll expected to be almost $240 million, $30 million more than the Yankees and $150 million more than the Rockies. You could also see the Dodgers September 25-27, but why wait when you can see them Mother's Day weekend?

4. Atlanta Braves (July 9-12)
This will be the Rockies' final weekend before the All-Star break, and the team is often at least in semi-contention at this point. This weekend includes the July fireworks game on Friday.

5. Miami Marlins (June 5-7)
The Marlins signed Giancarlo Stanton to a 13 year contract for a reported $325 million (largest contract in history).

6. Milwaukee Brewers (June 19-21)
Father's Day weekend is a great time to take your dad to a game.

Billy Hamilton

7. Cincinnati Reds (July 24-26)
As a personal sidebar, I covered speedster Billy Hamilton when he stole a record 155 bases in the minors, I want to see him now in the majors.

8. San Diego Padres (August 14-16)
This is a sleeper team in the NL West after a big offseason.

9. New York Mets (August 21-23)
David Wright and Matt Harvey could have the Mets in contention in late August.
