Woman Takes Nebraska Plea Deal In Slaying Of Colorado Man

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A 32-year-old woman has taken a plea deal in a case connected to the slaying of a Colorado man in western Nebraska.

Online court records say Maybelle Collins pleaded no contest and was convicted of false reporting. Prosecutors dropped a charge of being an accessory to murder in exchange for her plea. Collins is scheduled to be sentenced on April 13.

Two men have been charged with killing 43-year-old Lonnie Sanchez, of Hoehne, Colorado. His body was found last September along the South Platte River near the city of North Platte. An autopsy showed that Sanchez died of blunt force trauma.

Investigators say Collins was present during the attack but lied to police when she was arrested.
