Avs Captain Gabriel Landeskog Hasn't Been Afraid To Throw Down His Gloves

DENVER (CSB4) - Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog is only 22 and he's already been captain of the team for three seasons. But he said he never stops learning.

"I feel like it's one of those things that every day it's almost something new, and especially at the start it was," Landeskog said on Xfinity Monday Live. "I just told myself from Day 1 I was never going to stop learning and I always wanted to keep my ears open and ask questions."

He said that's especially true with the group of veterans the Avs have on the team this year.

"It's never too late to learn and I don't want to be one of those guys who thinks just because you're the captain that you can't learn anymore," he said. "Sometimes you have to learn to set boundaries and step up and make decisions … but sometimes as well it's very important to listen to your teammates."

CBS4's Vic Lombardi does a radio show with Avs head coach Patrick Roy every Thursday. Lombardi told Landeskog that Roy goes out of his way all the time to commend him on his leadership and has called him "rock solid."

Just because he's the captain doesn't mean that Landeskog isn't afraid to throw the gloves down and fight. It's happened a couple of times this season.

"I think hockey players, guys who have played in the league, they know what it's like when you feel that you have to do something … sometimes you have to create that momentum, that confidence for yourself in a different way, and for the team as well."

The Avs are still in the playoff hunt. They are six points out of the second wild card slot and desperately need to string together a bunch of wins to stay alive. They travel to Arizona to take on the Coyotes on Thursday. The puck drops at 8 p.m.
