GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) – Friends and family of a woman who died while being held in the Jefferson County Detention Facility held a vigil Saturday evening.
Jennifer Lobato, 38, died in her cell at the Jefferson County jail earlier this month. The group gathered outside the jail where she died demanding justice for her in what they say is a case of medical negligence.
A CBS4 investigation revealed Lobato was apparently suffering from drug withdrawal and repeatedly asked for a doctor. Those requests were ignored and her body was found later that night when the medical team made its regular rounds.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader told CBS4 Lobato might have lived if the jail’s medical staff had taken any action during the nearly 10 hours the woman and other inmates continually requested medical help.
