Officers, Volunteers Warn About Serial Groper Near City Park

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police are stepping up their efforts to find a man suspected of groping women in the City Park area.

Officers and volunteers on Sunday handed out flyers around City Park with the sketch of the suspect in hopes of tracking him down before another attack.

Seven women have been sexually assaulted since January, and police believe it is the same groper targeting female joggers around the park.

"At this point in time it looks that way, we going to also come at this with an open mind, but it appears he's involved in all eight of these situations," said Sonny Jackson of Denver Police.

The last time the groper attacked was Wednesday in the 2200 block of East 21st Avenue, in broad daylight.

"It's not just a night time thing, or evening thing...the last time was 11:30 in the morning," said Sonny.

The groper was then seen running towards City Park. Volunteers walked through City Park West, "going door to door in the neighborhood trying to raise some awareness," said one volunteer.

The suspect is described as a young man, 18 to 24 years old, about 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds. He has short dark hair, dark circles under his eyes and thick eyebrows.

Police said to stay alert if alone -- keep your head on a swivel, be aware of surroundings, and do not run with headphones as they prevent hearing what's going on around you.
