GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) – A man has been sentenced to 72 years in prison after he was convicted of attempted murder and assaulting police.
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office says 23-year-old Maksim Khamov was sentenced Tuesday.
He was accused of trying to run over Arvada police officers on Jan. 4, 2014. The officers were investigating a report that someone in Khamov’s car had fired a gun at another car after an argument in a bar parking lot.
Officers fired on Khamov’s car and then pursued it, but they ended the chase after it reached 100 mph.
Police said when they located the car later, they arrested Khamov and found his companion, 23-year-old Igor Skorev, dead from gunshot wounds.
Khamov was also convicted of vehicular eluding and a weapons charge.
