New Denver Visitor Center Now Open Near The 16th Street Mall

DENVER (CBS4) - Visitors to Denver now have a new place near the 16th Street Mall to find information about the city and all the activities it offers.

Mascots from sports teams and other organizations were on hand for the opening on Monday.

The center not only sells souvenirs, but it also allows visitors to download information.

Mayor Michael Hancock says it's especially appealing to international visitors, whose numbers jumped by 22 percent last year.

"Tourism is the second biggest industry in our city, generating some $4 billion in spending and supporting more than 51,000 jobs," Hancock said.

The mayor joked he felt quite comfortable with the mascots. Hancock was actually a Denver Broncos mascot, bringing huddles to life in 1986 when he was 17 years old.
