Aspen Murder Case To Be Featured On '48 Hours' Saturday Night

DENVER (CBS4) - This weekend the CBS program "48 Hours" will feature a murder case that happened in Colorado's high country.

The February 2014 murder of Nancy Pfister shocked the small mountain town of Aspen, and 48 Hours reporter Maureen Maher found that beyond the well-known glitz and glam, there is a lot of community pride among the locals.

"I think everybody was extremely disturbed by the nature of the crime -- the way in which Nancy was killed -- and this was one of their own, so that meant that every one of these people, from the sheriff to the publisher of the paper to the attorneys that were involved, everyone kind of already knew everyone, and they certainly knew the victim very well," Maher told CBS4's Shaun Boyd in a satellite interview previewing the Saturday night broadcast.

Pfister was killed in her home while she was sleeping. Her body was stuffed in a closet and not discovered until two days later.

Three people were initially arrested, including former Denver-area couple William and Nancy Styler. But William later confessed he acted alone, and wound up pleading guilty to second degree murder.

Maher told CBS4 one of the interesting aspects of the case is that it's not out of the question that there could more charges at some point for Katherine Carpenter, a friend of Pfister's and the third person who was arrested.

"Kathy Carpenter still lives under the threat that if there is more information or evidence that comes forward in the future, she could be charged and tried," Maher said.

"Murder in Aspen" will include interviews with both Nancy Styler and Carpenter. Watch a sneak peek below.
