Carbondale Man In Crash Who Said He Killed Wife Faces Murder Charge

CARBONDALE, Colo. (AP) - A man who crashed his vehicle in western Colorado, then allegedly told emergency workers he had just killed his wife is facing a charge of first-degree murder.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday that 46-year-old Arturo Navarrete-Portillo remains hospitalized but will be arrested once he is released.

Investigators say he rear-ended an empty cattle truck outside of Carbondale on Feb. 16 and was being airlifted to the hospital when he allegedly told the medical helicopter crew that he had killed his wife in an apartment building.
