Lost Diamond Somewhere On Popular Hiking Trail

CARBONDALE, Colo. (CBS4)- A woman is hoping someone will find the diamond that fell out of her wedding ring while she was hiking a popular trail.

Diane Darling, from Carbondale, was hiking with her husband and a friend on the Hanging Lake Trail in Glenwood Canyon earlier this month.

But when she returned home, "When we got back home afterwards my girlfriend looked at me and said, 'Where is your diamond?' I looked down and freaked out and completely lost it," said Darling.

Hanging Lake is one of the most popular hiking trails in Colorado. Darling is hoping someone might find the diamond along the 1.2 mile long trail.

"It's a 1.06 karat bound, they call it a brilliant cut, and it sparkles and it's gorgeous and it's so meaningful to me," said Darling.

After a thorough search, Darling is sure the diamond is on the trail, "Because I've looked everywhere else. We went back through the car, we went back to our backyard when it was discovered missing, we went through my gloves... all signs point to it being here."

Exactly where along the trail, Darling has no idea. It's literally a diamond in the rough.

"I'm hoping they do the right thing, where if they find the diamond and they know it's not theirs they know someone is heartbroken because they lost it and I'm hoping that their goodness comes out and they return it," said Darling.

With spring just around the corner and many more people heading outdoors, Darling is holding out hope that the diamond is found.

"It'll be hopping all summer long, so if it's under some snow or ice right now and it melts and then somebody finds it, do the right thing," said Darling.
