Fallen Sheriff's Deputy Honored With Naming Of Highway

DENVER (AP/CBS4) - A portion of a state highway in Jefferson County is being named after a sheriff's deputy who was killed in a motorcycle crash last year.

Colorado lawmakers on Tuesday approved a resolution to designate Colorado State Highway 93 from mile marker 0 to Colorado State Highway 72 as Sgt. David M. Baldwin Memorial Highway.

"It's wonderful that we're honoring this man's sacrifice but it's unfortunate that we take this occasion to do it as opposed to thanking you every single day and being aware every single day of how uniformed officers protect us on the streets and roads of Colorado," said state Rep. Max Tyler, a Democrat who represents Lakewood.

Baldwin was killed when the driver of an SUV was trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Highway 93 on Jan. 26 and hit Baldwin's motorcycle.
