Neighbors Mourn Boy Struck By Car In Bonnie Brae

DENVER (CBS4) - Flowers piled up at the intersection of South University Boulevard and East Ohio Avenue on Sunday after the neighborhood learned that a 3-year-old boy hit by a car there on Friday did not survive.

It happened around 5 p.m. on Friday just outside the Bonnie Brae Ice Cream shop. Police say a driver was making a left turn onto University Boulevard from Ohio Avenue when she struck the young boy, his mother and sister.

The family, according to police, was in the crosswalk and had the right of way. Those who live in the area said it's a trouble spot and drivers need to pay more attention to pedestrians.

"This light doesn't give you enough time to cross. When it turns white, it immediately turns red again it doesn't matter they come at you from all sides anyway," said neighbor Tone Carr.

It's unclear what, if any, charges the driver responsible will face.

Police say the investigation into what happened is ongoing and have not yet identified the driver involved. The child's mother and sister suffered minor injuries in the accident and were treated and released from the hospital on Friday.
