Forest Service Needs More Time On Land Swap At Ski Area

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service will take another 30 days to review objections to a land swap that would allow construction of a road to a proposed residential development near the Wolf Creek Ski Area.

The agency on Thursday extended the deadline to March 17, from Feb. 17.

The Forest Service says it received 20 objections, some lengthy.

The swap would give developer Leavell-McCombs Joint Venture about 200 acres of Rio Grande National Forest land for a road connecting a highway to the proposed development.

The federal government would get 178 acres of privately held land.

After the Forest Service regional office reviews the objections, it will direct the Rio Grande forest whether and how to change the deal. The regional office will also respond to the groups that filed objections.
