DIA Travelers Give $170,000 To Homeless In Spare Change Program
DENVER (AP) - Travelers have donated more than $170,000 to the homeless over the past two years through a program that sets up spare change receptacles at security checkpoints at Denver International Airport.
Airport officials say that from last February until the end of the year, passengers gave more than $88,000 to Denver's Road Home, a city program aimed at helping the homeless become self-sufficient. That's $6,000 more compared to the first year of the program.
Four containers are set up at the airport, as well as several in downtown Denver.
DIA CEO Kim Day says she continues to get requests from other airports interested in learning more about the program.
