Students Wear Pajamas To Class For Homeless Awareness
DENVER (CBS4) - Students who went to class at dozens of schools in Denver didn't bother to get dressed on Thursday. They stayed in their pajamas all day but it's all for a good cause.
"PJ Day" is an annual fundraiser for Denver's Road Home, a comprehensive plan to end homeless in the city. This year 85 schools in Denver participated.
Organizers say the event draws attention to the issue of homelessness in Denver, reminding students that not everyone has a comfortable place to sleep at night.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock says this is an important discussion, "We're excited because the more schools pick up, the more awareness we spread across the city-- particularly with our young people. To understand that there is indeed a challenge in our community with 5,000 plus people homeless, and particularly a lot of young people on our streets who are homeless."
Participating students donated cash or canned food for the homeless.
