Grand County Sheriff's Deputy Killed In Collision On Highway 34

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A Grand County sheriff's deputy was killed in a crash Tuesday morning.

Investigators say the deputy lost control of her pickup along Highway 34 and it collided with another truck.

"Despite rigorous rescue efforts by Grand County EMS and the staff at Middle Park Medical Center, the Deputy was pronounced dead at 8:07 a.m.," Grand County Emergency Manager Nowell Curran said in a statement.

The deputy's name has not been released. She was she was off duty at the time.

"The Grand County Sheriff's Office, the local public safety network, and the Grand County community lost a dedicated, law enforcement officer this morning," Sheriff Brett Schroetlin said.

"These are hard calls to respond to and even harder when you know the person. We are honored and proud of all who responded to this accident. All agencies who were involved in the care and response worked together in a fluid motion to give life a chance," EMS Chief Ray Jennings said.

The other driver, whose name also hasn't been released, was not injured.

The Colorado State Patrol is conducting the investigation.
