Denver Is 4th In The Nation For Football Fans

DENVER (CBS4) - Out of 142 cities in the United States, Denver ranks as the fourth best in which to be a football fan. Colorado Springs, however, ranks as the 138th worst.

WalletHub considered all cities that had at least one college or professional football team, and used 11 relevant measurements.

These included the performance quality of teams (number of wins out of total games played), the average ticket price, and stadium accessibility. Also the number of championships won and the number of division championships won.

Then the more trivial but no less important factors of fan friendliness, attendance, and number of sports bars per capita.

The best five cities in which to be a football fan are:

1 Green Bay, WI

2 East Lansing, MI

3 Pittsburgh, PA

4 Denver, CO

5 Tuscaloosa, AL

And the five cities in last place, from bad to worst: Colorado Springs, CO; Akron, OH; Mobile, AL; Tulsa, OK; and Las Vegas, NV.

Denver ranks 1st for performance quality of teams and 10th in franchise value of NFL teams. We ranked 13th for the number of division championships won, 21st for NFL game ticket prices as well as 21st for fan friendliness, and 36th for number of championships won. Unfortunately that category won't be advancing any time soon.

Other interesting statistics from the study include:

-The performance level of the NFL team is four times higher in Denver than in Jacksonville, Fla.

-The average ticket price for an NFL game is two times higher in Boston than in Cleveland.

-The number of sports bars per capita is 37 times higher in Morgantown, W.Va., than in Evanston, Ill.

-The viewership rate for NFL games is three times higher in Green Bay, Wis., than in Oakland, Calif.
