EPA Chief Visits Ski Resort To Talk About Climate Change
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — The head of the Environmental Protection Agency is drawing attention to the link between climate and the economy with a visit to a Colorado ski resort.
In a statement ahead of EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy's visit to Aspen Thursday, the agency says it was working to curb the carbon pollution fueling climate change. The EPA says snow-based recreation contributes $67 million annually to the economy, and that shorter seasons and poor ski conditions hurt business.
McCarthy is to speak at Aspen's X Games alongside snowboarders Gretchen Bleiler, who won a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Games, and Alex Deibold, who won bronze in 2014.
The X Games, a four-day sports competition and entertainment festival, open Thursday.
