4 Charged In Connection With Stolen Chihuly Art Pieces From Botanic Gardens

DENVER (CBS4) - Four people accused in the theft of Dale Chihuly artwork from the Denver Botanic Gardens have been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Alex Brook, 23; and Joseph Parnell, 36; are both charged with theft, criminal mischief and tampering with evidence. Sean Sorensen, 20; and Auvia Bellamy, 19 are charged with theft.

"The charges allege that on Aug. 22 … the four defendants unlawfully entered the Botanic Gardens and stole several pieces of Chihuly artwork that were on display," Kimbrough said in a statement. "The charges further allege that Brook and Parnell later took several glass cattails and left them in a corn field near Strasburg."

Kimbrough said the glass orb was found intact, but the cattails "were located but had been destroyed."

Brook, Parnell and Bellamy were released on a $5,000 bond. Sorensen remains in jail on the same $5,000 bond.
