Colorado Awaits Word On Tax Limits Lawsuit

DENVER (AP) - Colorado is waiting for word from the U.S. Supreme Court on a challenge to its taxing limits.

The Denver Post reports that a decision could come this week on whether the high court will block a challenge to Colorado Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. That's a 1992 amendment limiting lawmakers' ability to raise taxes.

Two Democratic lawmakers and others argue that TABOR illegally strips the state Legislature of its ability to manage the state budget. The state of Colorado opposes the plaintiffs and says TABOR should stand.

Colorado doesn't believe the courts should intervene in the dispute. If the Supreme Court agrees, the lawsuit won't proceed.
