THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) – As the hunt for a man who shot a driver in the head in Thornton after an apparent road rage incident continues, the victim is recovering quickly.

That person, a 33-year-old man whose name is not being released, was released from the hospital on Friday morning.

The shooting happened Thursday afternoon in a Home Depot parking lot, and police say there weren’t many witnesses. The shot, or shots, were fired in the lumber area of the store at 100th Avenue and Grant Street.

Thornton police spokesman Matt Barnes told CBS4 it started when a car and a truck pulled into the parking lot and one driver cut off the other.

The victim said he parked his car, a dark grey Acura sedan, and got out. A passenger then exited the truck and shot the victim in the head.

Police do not believe the victim and suspects know each other.

“It doesn’t appear he did anything aggressive. He parked and he was confronted by the suspects,” Barnes said.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as a black Toyota truck with a brush guard/grill on the front and possible damage to the bumper. The truck also had clutter in the back bed with numerous items in it.

The suspected shooter was described as either a light-skinned Hispanic or white male wearing a dark jacket.

Video cameras at the Home Depot may not be useful to police because they were pointed at the wrong angle and there was an obstruction that prevented police from seeing clearly.

Police reiterated that drivers who are accosted by angry drivers should defuse the situation by not engaging.

“The best thing to do as a driver is to back off,” Barnes said.
