DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver Broncos have promoted kicker Brandon McManus from their practice squad to the 53-man roster hoping to get better results on their kickoffs.

McManus was cut from the team after a dismal performance kicking field goals that culminated with a clanked a 33-yard field goal off the right upright in Denver’s 39-36 win over Miami.

The Broncos then signed free agent kicker Connor Barth who was 5 for 5 last week against the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend, but he was 0-8 in kickoff touchbacks.

McManus’ 48 touchbacks on kickoffs ranked second in the league when he was released.

In a surprise move, to make room for McManus the Broncos cut wide receiver Isaiah Burse, who was their kick return specialist. Wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker could take over that role.
