Regis Students Hold Vigil For Slain Mexican Students

DENVER (CBS4) - Regis University students and faculty held a candlelit vigil for students feared dead in Mexico and called on the Mexican government to punish their killers.

The group of 43 male students disappeared on Sept. 26 in Iguala, about two and a half hours south of Mexico City. It's widely believed a drug gang murdered the students.

For a few hours on campus on Monday, students and faculty carried candles to honor the students.

"It hurts in your heart when you see a country suffering because a bad government is killing its students," vigil attendee Felipe Lopez said.  "It is very painful because they are the future of Mexico."

Several police officers and politicians have been arrested in connection with the attacks.

A former teacher who attended the vigil said he taught in the same town where the students were abducted.

"No one understands why these things have to happen," Eleasiff Oyedia Riera said.
