Fort Collins Police: Assault Suspect Linked To Several Attacks

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - A man arrested for attacking a woman near Fort Collins in October is also a suspect in several other assaults this fall, authorities confirmed on Friday.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Department arrested Jose Angel Alderete-Gomez, 27, on Monday, but didn't say until Friday that they believe he's linked to the other attacks.

Police on Monday said they were conducting forensic testing to determine if Alderete-Gomez is connected to at least seven attacks on women near the Colorado State University campus.

The victim was assaulted riding her bike in a park off Highway 1 north of Fort Collins.

Alderete-Gomez is being held on $450,000 bond. He faces several charges, including assault and sexual assault. Police haven't released his arrest mug shot, but it did previously release a sketch of the suspect in the assaults. Police on Friday wouldn't say if the Alderete-Gomez bears a resemblance to the suspect in the sketch.

He faces charges of second-degree assault and charges in a separate case of domestic violence.

Fort Collins police said the public provided hundreds of leads.

"It's definitely a big relief seeing that. Just one more person like that off the streets," resident Marcus Jackson said.
