Kidnapping Suspect Asks To Withdraw Guilty Plea

AURORA, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — A man who pleaded guilty to trying to kidnap an 8-year-old girl from her bedroom in suburban Denver is asking a judge to withdraw his plea.

John Snorsky was expected to be sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday under a deal reached with prosecutors in September. Instead, he told the judge that he thinks his lawyers lied to him and wants them replaced.

"I don't feel I'm being represented as I should be. I wanted to fight and I signed this deal, I just wanted to get it over with for everybody but in my heart I still want to fight. If you could answer just one question for me it would make it really simple, 'Can I withdraw my plea?'" said Snorsky.

The judge replied, "I can't answer that until we address the question of your legal representation."

"I just feel like my counsel's been lying to me and that's how I feel personally. I want to fight," said Snorsky.

The judge scheduled a hearing in January to consider his request.

District Attorney Dave Young informed the court and Snorsky that if he withdraws his guilty plea, no further offers will be made and the case will be set for trial.

Police say Snorsky got into the girl's bedroom last October through an unlocked window and grabbed her. She screamed for help and was able to get away from him just as her father ran outside.

"The family came to court today expecting that the defendant would be sentenced for his crimes against their daughter," Young said. "This is extremely frustrating for them."
