One Arrested In Attack On Woman Near Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - The Larimer County Sheriff's Department has arrested a suspect in connection with an attack on a woman in Fort Collins last month.

Jose Angel Alderete-Gomez, 27, is being held on $450,000 bond.

Police are conducting forensic testing to determine if the suspect is connected to at least seven attacks on women near the Colorado State University campus.

The victim was assaulted riding her bike in a park off Highway 1 north of Fort Collins.

Alderette-Gomez faces charges of second-degree assault and charges in a separate case of domestic violence.

CSU students said they were relieved authorities have a suspect in custody.

"It's awesome to know I can actually walk around feeling (that) somebody who could have caused some of these things to these girls (is caught)," student Breanna Hagar said.

The sheriff's department said it's not showing Alderete-Gomez's face, although it has released a sketch of the suspect in multiple assaults.

"(There are) certainly a lot of similarities to the cases the city of Fort Collins is investigating," sheriff Justin Smith said. He's said it's "certainly, absolutely on the table" that the cases could be related, but they're waiting for more information.
