COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)– The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating after cellphone video captured one of their officers hitting a female student.

It happened while he was trying to break up a fight between two students at Coronado High School.

The school resource officer said the student hit him first.

The police department initially said the force the officer used was “necessary and appropriate.”

However, that officer will have to write up a report explaining why he used force and his supervisor will decide if he was in the wrong.
