Man Trapped For 3 Days Between Walls In Longmont Store

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Longmont firefighters freed a man who'd become stuck for three days in between walls at a Marshall's store after falling 20 feet from the store's roof.

It's unclear why the man was on the roof, fire department spokeswoman Molly Meehan said.

She said store employees heard the man screaming and called for help at approximately 9:30 a.m. Firefighters freed him 30 minutes later after cutting a hole in the exterior wall with a circular saw and a variety of hand tools. He had fallen from a vestibule on the store's roof.

Longmont police identified the man as Paul Felyk, 35. He was taken to Longmont United Hospital. He suffered some leg injuries. In a video posted to the Times-Call's website, he crawled from the wall on his own and appeared responsive.

"Rather than us going after him, he actually crawled towards us. I think he was very cold and very anxious to get out of that space," Meehan said.

Police haven't arrested Felyk but are investigating him for criminal trespass, Longmont police spokesman Matt Cage said. Police said the man, who told them he is from Westminster, may be homeless and may have been trying to enter the store to stay warm.

The call was out of the ordinary, firefighters said Tuesday afternoon.

"I've been on the department for six years," Meehan said. "This is definitely one of my strangest calls."
