5 Armed Robberies Reported Near And On DU Campus
DENVER (CBS4) - Two robbers working together targeted five University of Denver students at gunpoint Monday night.
The first incident happened around 7:30 p.m., the second two around 9 p.m., according to spokesman Will Jones.
The university said one robber pulled a gun on the victims and demanded wallets, laptops, cellphones and backpacks. Police said one suspect is black and the other is Hispanic.
Two robberies took place at South University Boulevard and Asbury Avenue next to one of the university's apartment buildings. Another two victims were robbed at Williams Street and Asbury. The fifth person was robbed in an university parking lot at High Street and Buchtel Boulevard. The suspects were wearing hoodies.
"I definitely got a little nervous, particularly since it's around my area," student Michael Bradley said.
The university said it will add more security. Police said students should consider walking in groups and remove headphones so they're more aware of their surroundings.
"A lot of times I'm here really, really late on campus studying and it makes me not want to leave and walk the streets by myself," Abby Wetzler, a law school student, said.
Wetzler, who has lived on and off campus, said she's never heard of any robberies this brazen near DU.
"Nothing compared to people have guns pulled on them," she said.
