Skimmers Discovered At Light Rail Ticket Machines

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Skimmers that steal credit card information have been discovered on ticket machines at light rail stations.

Investigators in Arapahoe County discovered three skimmers and battery packs at the Dry Creek Light Rail Station on Tuesday.

Others were found in Littleton at the Mineral and County Line Light Rail Stations, making it a total of eight skimming devices.

"It just didn't make sense as a target because our professionals are out there keeping a close eye on this," said RTD spokesman Scott Reed.

All the skimmers have been confiscated by authorities. The devices were "record only" and were recovered in time. The skimmers did not transmit the information they recorded.

"Law enforcement has told us they're confident there was no credit card information that was compromised," said Reed.

There are pictures of someone police call a "person of interest" in the case.

"We turned over our video evidence that we had which clearly shows about 4:30 in the morning, two people installing those devices at the stations," said Reed.

Investigators in Arapahoe County, Littleton and Lone Tree are reviewing evidence to track down the would-be thieves.
