Voting Officials In Larimer County Stop Raising Scholarship Question

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Larimer County election judges have been told to stop advising out-of-state college students to check whether their scholarships would be affected if they register to vote in Colorado.

County Clerk and Recorder Angela Myers said Tuesday the suggestion was made to fewer than 10 students at a polling place on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins.

She says she told the judges to stop last week or the week before because it wasn't their responsibility.

Myers says judges were trying to be helpful, not trying to discourage students from registering.

She says some parents complained after the 2012 election that their children lost scholarships after registering in Colorado.

CSU spokesman Kyle Henley could not immediately say whether registering in Colorado would change a student's residency and scholarship status.
