Colorado's Next Elections Chief May Be Quieter
DENVER (AP) - Colorado may be in for a quieter time from its next elections chief.
Either Democrat Joe Neguse or Republican Wayne Williams would likely make less noise as secretary of state than current secretary Scott Gessler. Both talk up their bipartisan nature and are campaigning as level-headed caretakers of the state's elections.
Williams is the clerk and recorder in El Paso County, the state's most populous. He says his experience makes him the best choice.
Neguse is one of nine elected University of Colorado regents. The son of African immigrants, he says he grew up treasuring the rights of citizenship and will work to make voting easier.
Gessler made headlines for fighting efforts to mail ballots to all voters and vigorously opposing a Democratic elections overhaul that included same-day registration.
