Boulder police said the fire has resulted in a death investigation. The Boulder County Coroner's Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon it's investigating the death of an approximately 2-year-old Hispanic male.

Neighbor Gerardo Ibarra told CBS4 he rushed inside the home and was able to rescue one child and the child's mother was also able to escape. They were both being treated at a local hospital.

Ibarra then discovered there was another child in the home and attempted to rescue him.

"I only take one boy because there are two boys, only the big one I take," Ibarra said. "When I go in for the other, there is big one, fire, I don't have chance, I don't have chance, no," Ibarra said.

"He's very devastated that he couldn't get to the other one, so, but I'm very proud of my dad," Ibarra's son said.

"Police officers who arrived on scene said flames were 20 to 30 feet in air," Boulder police spokesperson Kim Kobel said in a statement.

A firefighter suffered a twisted ankle while fighting the fire.

It's not clear how the fire started.
