Thieves Steal Phones, Credit Cards From Cars In Parker

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators are working to track down thieves who stole credit cards after breaking into cars across Parker.

The suspects are believed to be responsible for 13 break-ins on Sunday and nine on Monday night.

In every case, the robbers targeted cars parked on the street with their doors unlocked. Once inside, they took cellphones, credit cards and other valuables.

"Nine in one night, 13 (another) night. So it's an unusual high number of vehicle trespasses," Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chad Teller said.

Teller said deputies are looking into the possibility that two men who are shown in surveillance images from a crime case two weeks ago may be partially or fully responsible for this week's crime spree.

The images were captured at a Parker Walmart, and they show the men using stolen credit cards. The cards had been stolen from a vehicle nearby.

"We want to know who these individuals are so that maybe we can tie them to other cases, possibly," Teller said.

The men were described as being white males in their 20s. They possibly were driving a silver 4-door Chevy Tahoe.

Resident Cynthia Renkel lives in one of the neighborhoods that was targeted, Cottonwood, and said she's furious.

"It's kind of shocking, it's very disturbing," Renkel said. "What goes through their minds that they think they can do that and get away with it?"

Parker resident Jack Pope told CBS4 he and his neighbors are being more vigilant now about looking out for crime, and he's confident the criminals will be caught.

"People are going to break laws and steal from other people and of course it makes you angry. But they might be angry when they're sitting around in a jail cell for a while," Pope said.
