Middle Schoolers Protest Jeffco History Proposal

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Younger students are joining the protests over a controversial proposal aimed at promoting patriotism in Advanced Placement history classes.

About 50 students from Carmody Middle School in Lakewood protested Tuesday morning as police kept watch.

The protests began Sept. 19 after the Jefferson County school board backed a plan to base teacher raises on evaluations and also began discussing creating a committee to review materials being used to teach AP history. Teachers have staged sick outs that have shut down classes at a total of four schools and hundreds of students have walked out of class since then.
