Man Pleads Guilty To Trying To Kidnap Girl From Home
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man accused of trying to kidnap an 8-year-old girl in Aurora last October pleaded guilty on Friday.
Johnathan Snorsky, 27, entered his plea in court on first-degree burglary and second-degree kidnapping charges.
Police say on Oct. 28 Snorsky pulled the girl out of her bedroom window. Detectives say the young victim told him she doesn't talk to strangers and that Snorsky responded, "I know your parents."
Snorsky reportedly pulled the girl out of the home by her legs. She got away once outside her home by pinching him and screaming. That sent him back to his car and speeding away from the house.
Police arrested Snorsky the next day for a parole hold in an unrelated case and DNA later tied him to Aurora crime.
"I think it was more of a crime of opportunity. It wasn't a plan that he had thought out, but unfortunately he committed this crime. He got caught and he's going to have to serve his time for it," defense lawyer M. Colin Bresee said.
In court on Friday, the victim's family nodded in agreement when Snorsky accepted the plea.
Dave Young, district attorney for the 17th Judicial District, said the plea spares the family of going through a trial, but he says that nonetheless this has been a traumatic time for them.
"It's been very difficult," Young said. "They've moved out of their house where they were living. Just the frustrations of coming to court and having to see him every day for what happened is very difficult for them."
The girl may testify at Snorsky's sentencing, which is scheduled for late November. He could spend 30 years in prison and a mandatory five years on parole.
