Break-Ins Shake Boulder Neighborhood

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Residents of a Boulder neighborhood are on alert after a series of reports of men lurking outside of homes and watching the women inside.

In some of the cases the homes were broken into and in one case a man stole cash.

Johanna Fusco, a University of Colorado sophomore, told CBS4 she and her roommates at her house have been living in fear since they were targeted.

Late at night on Sept. 11 she had just gotten out of the shower when she heard someone trying to break into her room.

"I kind of let it go for like 30 seconds to a minute and then it got louder and louder and I ran out into the living area," she said.

It was dark outside and Fusco wasn't able to catch a glimpse of who was responsible.

"It's really, really scary and traumatizing. I don't sleep in my room. I don't ever sleep at my house because it's so scary for me," she said.

Four other incidents in the last week have all happened within a few blocks of each other, all near Broadway and to the west of CU's campus.

In those cases an unknown male entered a home through an unlocked window or door.

The suspect was described as college-aged in three of the cases. He had a stocky build and was approximately 5-foot-10.

In the other case a different, more specific description emerged. A white male with a skinny build who was clean cut and about 6 feet tall was responsible. He had a blue T-shirt and jeans on and had dark blond hair.

Molly Rovzar, also a sophomore at CU, said police came by her house during their investigation of an incident next door.

"Which is I guess a little more concerning because that's hard to point out. Obviously we live in an area where there are so many college kids that that description doesn't really pick anyone out too obviously," Rovzar said.

Many residents are keeping their porch lights on at night and making sure their doors are locked. They are also making sure their blinds are drawn.

Police have told residents to watch out for any suspicious behavior, and they said they hope anyone who may have witnessed one of the crimes to come forward to help with the investigation.
