A Dozen Dead Horses Found With Sick Horses Living In Foot-Deep Feces

BLACK FOREST, Colo. (CBS4) – The El Paso County Sheriff's Department is investigating after as many a dozen horses were found dead inside a barn on a property in Black Forest Friday afternoon.

A woman told KKTV in Colorado Springs that she rents property in the 5400 block of Burgess Road and raises German shepherds. She said one of them got away and went into the barn located nearby, also on Burgess Road.

The woman said she found the dead horses and 10 more that were alive but KKTV's crew said they are in really bad shape, living in feces more than a foot deep.

The woman told deputies she hadn't seen the horses before finding them. She began renting the property in August.

KKTV reported that the horses apparently belong to another woman who boards them there.

Investigators are attempting to locate the owner of the horses and the property owner.
