DENVER (CBS4) – Despite Kansas City losing All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles with a left ankle injury in the first quarter against the Broncos, the Chiefs held their own for much of the first half, only to see the Broncos pull away for a 21-10 lead at halftime.
On the first play of the game Peyton Manning completed a 48-yard pass to Emmanuel Sanders to put the Broncos in Chiefs territory. Four plays later Julius Thomas continued his dominance with his fourth touchdown reception of the young season to give the Broncos a 7-0 lead.
The Chiefs later answered with a field goal and then took the lead on a Knile Davis 2-yard run for a touchdown.
The Broncos regained the lead on a 4-yard pass to Jacob Tamme for a touchdown to make it 14-10.
The Broncos then added another touchdown on a Manning to Demaryius Thomas touchdown with 1:15 left in the half to make it 21-10.
Manning was 15 for 19 for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half. C.J. Anderson had 5 carries for 31 yards rushing, and Sanders hauled in four receptions for 64 yards.
