Senator Visits Towns Rebuilding 1 Year After Flood
LYONS, Colo. (AP) — Fighting for his political life, Colorado U.S. Sen. Mark Udall is visiting flood-ravaged villages in the foothills, again touting his role in getting millions of dollars in federal aid for recovery.
Udall, a Democrat, will visit Lyons and Jamestown on Friday, two towns that were hit hard by the deadly flood in September 2013.
Udall has been talking up his success in helping towns like Lyons and Jamestown rebuild while accusing his GOP opponent, Rep. Cory Gardner, of obstructing the response by voting for a government shutdown shortly after the floods.
Gardner has accused Udall of politicizing the disaster.
Eight people were killed in the flood and a 10th died in the recovery effort. Damage was estimated at $2 billion.
