Denver Solar Company Will Offer Free Power To Students' Families

DENVER (CBS4) - A school in the Montbello neighborhood will partner with a local solar energy company to offer free solar power to families whose kids attend the school.

Academy 360 is a public charter school that teaches kids kindergarten age through third grade and adds a new grade every year as it grows. It's teaming up with SunShare, a Denver company, to provide solar power to the school's families.

SunShare builds and maintains off-site solar plants it calls "solar gardens" that furnish energy for families who can't or don't want to add solar panels to their homes.

Mayor Michael Hancock will announce the partnership at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.

SunShare, founded in 2011, has built two solar gardens in Colorado Springs and is planning to build four in the Denver area to serve Xcel Energy customers in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver and Jefferson counties.
