Aurora Police Investigating Fatal Shooting Near Apartment Complex

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man in Aurora died Monday night after being shot next to an apartment complex near Havana Street and Colfax Avenue.

He was found with at least one gunshot wound when police arrived at the 1900 block of Clinton Street at approximately 10:20 p.m. He died after being taken to the hospital.

Neighbors said they heard four or five gunshots. Bullet holes were visible in the windows of a basement apartment. The property manager told CBS4 the victim doesn't live there, but his girlfriend does.

The victim's identity has not been released.

"It's a scary thought to know that somebody wants to come through any neighborhood and shoot at anyone for any reason," neighbor Tracy Williams said. "We live in a dangerous world these days."

Another neighbor said she can't shake the scene from her thoughts. "It plays back over and over in my head," Charmezha Birmingham said.

Detective and officers were still entering and leaving the crime scene at noon. The Adams County Coroner's office will conduct an autopsy on the body.
