Teen Shot, Killed At 'Out-Of-Control' Party In Southwest Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - A teenager was shot and killed after police say a party in northwest Denver got out of control.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday near Osceola Street and Exposition Avenue. Police say at this time there is no suspect description.

Neighbors and witnesses are shaken up by the killing.

"The guy shot him in the back and he fell," said Jessica Cansino, who witnessed the shooting.

Cansino woke up to a dying 17-year-old boy lying flat in her driveway. She says it all started with a raging party two houses down.

"Some guy came out with a gun and started shooting -- about eight bullets," she said.

Cansino says the teenager who was killed had been running for his life alongside her own brothers who barely dodged the bullets.

"I was really shocked, I was really scared," she said.

Just across the street, Hector Garcia also awoke to gunfire.

"I saw a lot of just screaming and cars just bolting up and down the street," Garcia said. "It was like a bomb going off, it was crazy."

Neighbor Jose Espinoza says increasing violence is making him and his three young children feel unsafe in their own neighborhood.

"It's happening more, more and more," Espinoza said.

Denver police Sgt. Steve Warneke says investigators will continue canvassing the area searching for clues.

"Despite whether or not it's gang related there can be some reluctance to come forward," Warneke said. "And that's a difficult situation, but we ask people to do the right thing, and if they have any information, please come forward."

The victim's name hasn't been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
