Police: Grandmother Got Grandkids To Shoplift
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A grandmother has been arrested and is facing charges for allegedly getting her grandchildren to shoplift.
Police arrested Trina Chavez-Hutchins on Monday after police said she took her 10-year-old grandson and 7-year-old granddaughter to a sporting goods store at the Citadel Mall.
They allegedly stole about $360 worth of merchandise. Surveillance tape shows the three running from the store.
Chavez-Hutchins, 43, faces charges of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Neighbors said they are surprised to learn of the allegations.
"I've known Trina for a while. She's very nice. She's like the neighborhood mom. She's always sitting outside, watching everybody's kids, very friendly," said neighbor Adrian Neapodaca.
Chavez-Hutchins has a lengthy rap sheet from all across Colorado, including theft and fraud.
